Following the fatal stabbing of Matthew Daulby, an Ormskirk cocktail bar has announced they are going to step up security for anyone entering their premises.

Lime Tyger, located on Moor Street, announced they are set to enforce compulsory metal detection for anyone who enters the bar. They said trained staff will conduct the safety measure while on duty.

It comes after the tragic events last weekend that saw 19-year-old Matthew from Liverpool fatally stabbed in the town. Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, Matthew died later in hospital.

In a post on Facebook, Lime Tyger said: "Following the heart breaking and tragic events in ormskirk, we have made a decision to enforce security screening and compulsory metal detection before ANY guest will be permitted entry. Trained security staff will conduct this safety measure whilst on duty.

"This decision was not imposed on Lime Tyger, it is a choice we have made in order to do whatever we can to prevent senseless tragedy and violence."We have a duty to protect our community and provide a safe environment for people to socialise. The importance of this has never been more clear."We would also encourage other venues to enforce the same measures and pull together in solidarity to make Ormskirk a safer place.

"It is already too late but we must do what we can and act NOW. If you disagree, you will be refused entry. NO ifs, NO buts……. EVERY single person!!!!"

In a tribute Matthew’s family said: “Matthew was the most compassionate, loving and funny young man with a bright future ahead of him. He adored his family, and cared for them with utmost loyalty. He loved spending time with them and gave his love so generously, making sure everyone knew how much he loved them.

“He had a zest for life and was always looking forward to holidays with his family and friends. He was surrounded by love from his family and we will miss him every day, for the rest of our lives.”

DCI Andy Fallows, from our Force Major Investigation Team, said: “This incident has resulted in a young man losing his life and first and foremost my thoughts are with Matthew’s loved ones at this time. We have launched a murder investigation and there are a number of individuals we are looking to identify and speak to. Although we are looking into what led to the altercation in Railway Road, this is being treated as an isolated incident.

“You will see a number of officers carrying out enquiries in the area over the coming days and I would encourage anybody with information pertinent to this investigation to come forward. We are particularly keen to hear from anybody who has footage from Railway Road and surrounding streets in the minutes before the altercation took place and the minutes after. You could have captured something that could be key to this investigation.”
